Ear Infections can be treated with chiropractic adjustments |

| Below is an amazing CASE STUDY of 2 year old Jaxon Kraemer.... |

Tympanogram readings
of Jaxon Kraemer |
| Chronic bilateral otitis media and cervical lymph nodes enlarged |
|
| Jaxon is a 2-year-old boy who came to my office to be seen for
chronic bilateral otitis media. Tympanogram readings have shown
Jaxon has had fluid in both ears since January, 2003. He has
had 3 rounds of antibiotic treatments during the last 6 months,
one of which he had an allergic reaction to. Since this treatment
was not effective, his doctor suggested the next step to take
would be surgical intervention. A perforation would be made in
both of Jaxon's eardrums and tubes would be put in place to allow
drainage. Jaxon's parents wanted to take a different approach
to avoid surgery. They had heard from many parents that this
surgery does not always work and then a second surgery is suggested.
Often times this can result in scarring of the eardrum (tympanic
membrane), leaving hearing damage to the child |

| We will be using the Tympanometry to measure fluid in the middle ear before and
after chiropractic adjustments. Tympanometry is the objective measurement of
middle ear mobility and pressure within the middle ear system. A hand held
ear probe that emits a low-pitched tone is gently placed in the ear canal.
This tone is used to measure the change in compliance (middle ear mobility)
in the middle ear. If there is no mobility of the tympanic membrane the graph
will be flat with no peak, Indicating fluid behind the eardrum. The ear canal
volume is also measured which can indicate if there is a perforation in the
eardrum. The peak compliance measured indicates normal mobility in the middle
ear system. |

Examination and motion palpation revealed C1 left lateral fixation, anterior
superior occiput, posterior inferior ilium and entire cervical lymphatic
chain enlarged and palpable. Parents state that his cervical lymph nodes
have been enlarged since birth. Tympanogram reading was flat on both right
and left ears, indicating fluid behind the eardrum.
Jaxon was adjusted on his first visit using an Activator instrument
and occiput drop piece. Four days later another tympanogram was
performed and there was a positive change for the first time
in six months. The right ear showed a slight improvement, the
peak compliance changed from .1 to .2 and a small peak started
to show on the graph. Another significant change was that his
lymph nodes had almost a returned to normal size and were barely
palpable. After his second adjustment, the tympanogram showed
the most dramatic change. Both ears had drained of fluid and
the graph was starting to show a more normal curve. The peak
compliance in both ears had jumped to a .4, which is within the
normal range. |

| CONCLUSION: |
|
|
| Jaxon's parents are very excited with his progress. The improvement has now
alleviated the fear of undergoing the invasive surgery of putting tubes in
his ears. We are also in hopes that Jaxon's days of antibiotic treatments
are also behind him. Jaxon continues to receive preventative care visits. |
